I don’t often get to shoot local matches but was able to squeeze one in down in Farmington, NM. Those guys did an awesome job setting up a great match. Really fun stages and a really great group shooters at this 3-gun match. I even had my dad come out and watch and he hasn’t been able to come to a match in years. Also was able to shoot with my buddy George from NM who is a retired Firefighter. This was great training and I learned a lot by watching some of the other shooters who all shot great! Can’t wait for more matches coming up this month! It feels so good to be back shooting again full time!

A few Concealed Carry tips for you. I first recommend figuring out where on your body you want to conceal. A good way of doing this is getting a blue gun (fake plastic gun that is the mold of the gun you want to conceal) and carrying it all day in the place where you hope to conceal it. This will help you determine if carrying there is applicable to what you do throughout the day and will also help you to figure out if it’s comfortable for long periods of time. Once you figure this out, then I highly recommend drawing from concealment with dry practice with a completely unloaded firearm at home until you get incredibly comfortable and confident drawing from concealment without getting clothing or other obstructions in the way, and keeping that finger outside the trigger guard until the muzzle is free of obstructions and pointed at the intended target. Next head to the range and start out slow and gradually increase the speed until you’re comfortable and confident drawing from concealment and getting good hits on target. Good luck with your training. Stay safe and don’t forget, you are your own first responder.

It’s not often that I sit still for anything. I always like to be moving and doing something unless I’m sleeping. You can say that I am a product of public land. I would’ve never become an Olympian had I not had thousands of miles of trails and open access to incredible areas to train all across the west. Upon becoming an Olympian, I traveled all over the world and realized just how special and important our public lands are. Most Americans don’t realize that most countries have little to no public lands. It was a childhood dream of mine to go to Africa and see the vast expanse of lands that the plains animals had to migrate across the country. Most of those migration routes and that land has been broken up and sold into private parcels and the animal migration routes cut off forever. The same goes for Europe. There’s very little public lands where people can recreate and or hunt and you see very few wild animals. We are so spoiled here in the US with our freedoms and the amazing things that we have been given, including our public lands. If we don’t wake up and start protecting those, they will be gone forever, and we will be no different than Africa, Europe, and the rest of the world. @senmikelee is proposing the sale of our public lands in the Big Beautiful Bill. This is not a right or left issue that should be everyone’s issue. If you have ever spent time on public lands, whether it’s hiking, biking, horseback, riding, ATV, fishing, camping, hunting, stargazing, birdwatching, or any other outdoor activity, then you need to call your senators today and tell them not to sell a single acre. Huge thank you to @randynewberghunter @cameronrhanes @stevenrinella @hunternation for spearheading this push, and all the organizations out there that just love to enjoy our public lands and the outdoors that are helping to protect our public lands. This is not the way to balance the budget and never will be. Hot but so much fun! I shot on an amazing squad at the Vortex Free State Shotgun Qualifier this weekend in Kansas and enjoyed every minute despite some crazy heat. Good people and fun stages made the heat bearable and the day fly by. I shot an ok match despite focusing mostly on PCC the last couple of months and it was great practice for the IPSC Shotgun Worlds where I hope to go back and defend my World title next year in Greece. I will be setting up practice courses at my range in Colorado so anyone interested in training and learning techniques and tips on improving, message me (or call me) for a class :). I’ll be putting some up on my website soon. Have a great week!

When I was sitting down thinking how I could improve upon the video I posted the other day, it was simple, add a balance element. Every time I do something like this it teaches me about grip, recoil management, finger discipline, sight picture, stance, balance, etc... It may look goofy to you but it is little nuggets of learning gold that that I stow away for a future competition or class trying to teach someone how to improve. I learned a tremendous amount about recoil management and how it equates to balance. When it comes to balance, if you tense up too much, your balance falls apart, but you also need to have good optimal tension to manage the recoil. This obviously was going to the extreme, but it definitely taught me about finding that fine line of tension, relaxation, And finding that balance. Have a great day everyone and try to be better today than you were yesterday!

I do have the confidence knowing my ammo is going to cycle in my firearm though. I’ve shot thousands of rounds of Fiocchi through my Concealed carry gun and know it’s will run. June is barely half way through and it has been a blast! This is what has happened so far:
1. Training a group of Female LE at Miami-Dade Training Center
2. Training for the next Shotg&n World Champs Qualifier
3. Time with Family
4. 10 Ring Ranch Range Upgrades including turf for the ranges, new barrels and tons of clean up and weeding
5. Planting the garden at 10 Ring Ranch: sweet potatoes, potatoes, beets, peppers, tomatoes, onions… so far
6. Exploring the ranch with Mabel, Moseley, Fred & Grant
7. Mom’s B-day Party
8. Cookouts on the Ranch
9. Ramping up the physical training
10. And loving life!!
I have a feeling the second half of June will be even better than the first! Bring it on!!

If you haven’t spent much time outside our borders then you might not truly appreciate what we have here in the USA! Tracy and I are headed to Florida next week to teach some of the best female LE in Florida! We had the privilege of teaching a group of amazing and heroic women a few years ago and are back to work with another group about the physiological and psychological aspects of shooting and how they can apply it to their jobs every day to help keep people safe! In this course we cover the physiological & psychological responses the body goes through in stressful situations and how to control them to be able to think, react and do what is necessary in that moment. Our Law Enforcement put their lives on the line to help protect our communities, the least we can do is pass along the skills we learned along the way to better prepare them for what ever they encounter. This class is not easy, the ladies work hard physically and mentally over 3 days to build some important and critical skills. In a few hours Lena, @jalise_williams_shooting @lyndaturnbull_ and I will be clinging to top step foe the PCC World Shoot Ladies Team Gold! We had such and incredible team and all fought hard to bring home gold for USA. I didn’t quite reach my goal individually of being on the podium and finished 7th. A few mistakes cost me but I am happy and hungry to try this again the next go around. I am also excited to be able to go back to shooting full time and not be tied down. I wasn’t able to shoot or train much the last three years and it shows but I’m hungry and motivated to get back to Lanny Oakley again and train hard. Mental Training Tip #3! If you haven’t seen the first 2- positive mindset and key words, check those out then try this. Most of you probably do this to some extent but I’m going to challenge you to take your visualizations further! The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. The more you can visualize right up to the weather, people around you, the dirt below your feet, etc. the better you are going to preform in what ever you do. Visualizations is not just about memorizing the targets you are going to shoot or the speech you are giving but being able to relax in that environment. It is getting a very detailed visualization and going through it over and over in your head until your mind thinks it’s no big deal and can just act on muscle memory. Our Day 4 & the match day 5 in the books. We are shooting with the Swedes and they are amazing and a ton of fun to shoot with. Today’s stages seem to fly by and it was almost like we finished as quickly as we started. They were short and quick stages today with a little bit of long range mixed in. I made a mistake today and ran past a target but such is life and I’m fighting hard regardless of the error. Just incredibly happy to be here and thankful for the opportunity. Some people say that I’m like an 80 year old in a 43 yr old body. I’ve experienced a lifetime’s worth of up and downs and challenges both good and bad this far and I’m only part way through. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. The last 3 year have been particularly difficult with taking a challenging & incredibly time consuming job out in Nevada away from my husband and family. I also have been battling cancer the last two years. I hade surgery April 14th a day before I was let go from my job and have one more surgery when I get back. Needless to say I haven’t been this happy in years and am incredibly excited about the future and the fact that I get to go back to what I love and that’s competing and also teaching around the country. So stay tuned for some awesome adventures and one more day of the IPSC PCC World Champs! This is fun. I probably sound like a broken record but I am having sooo much fun. When I was training for the Olympics in biathlon, it was hard… all the time. There was no such thing as an easy training or race or easy course. If there was such a thing you just pushed harder to get to the finish line and that meant more pain. When the twin and I jumped into action shooting sports after we retired from the Olympics, our main goal was to have fun. I haven’t shot much the last three years having dedicated myself to a job in Nevada but I can’t tell you how great it feels to be back shooting and truly enjoying every moment. This is what it’s all about!! Proud to be representing my country and teammates!! All equipment is working great! More fun to come.

So many people always ask me what my mom is like and say that she must be pretty amazing if she raised two Olympians and a surgeon from a tiny mountain town in south west Colorado. I always say the same thing. Yes she is! She led by example, did her best in everything she did and didn’t settle for anything less than her best effort. She put her heart and soul into her work and I can say that there are thousands of her students that would say the same thing. She was a school teacher for over 25 years. A lot of people would say that is a profession that will never make you money, but her experiences and the lives she touched in those 25 years made her the richest woman in the world. This is one thing that really helped me in my Olympic career and something I highly recommend if you want to be successful in anything in your life. It can translate to just about anything to help you get in the right mindset. I still recommend making sure you have mastered the first technique that I posted a few days ago and starting with a positive mindset before you start implementing a keyword. Ground Duck Bacon Burgers!! So incredibly easy, good and tender, you have to try this. Struggling to know how to cook your waterfowl? This is an easy way to make it tender, juicy, and perfect for a summer cookout! Recipe below:
Makes approx. 3-4 burgers
4-6 duck breasts
3-4 strips of bacon
1 egg
1/2 cup finely shredded Italian cheese
Spices of choice
Directions:
Ground duck meat
Mix ground duck, eggs, cheese, spices in a bowl. Add a half inch layer of ground duck mixture to top of bacon. Roll bacon and duck up into large roll. Cook on the grill until desired doneness. Enjoy!
